Dr. Otgontuya Davaanyam
Profile
Dr. Otgontuya Davaanyam is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the FAU Research Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU CHREN). Her research sits at the intersection of international human rights law, corporate accountability, and environmental governance, with a particular focus on the normative development of business and human rights standards through OECD dispute resolution mechanisms.
Dr. Davaanyam completed her PhD summa cum laude at FAU in 2025 with a dissertation examining corporate human rights and environmental responsibilities through a systematic analysis of OECD National Contact Point (NCP) case law. Her work offers a bottom-up, practice-grounded approach to conceptualising corporate responsibility obligations, making an original contribution to both legal scholarship and policy debate in the field of business and human rights.
Her broader research interests encompass non-judicial grievance mechanisms and access to remedy, due diligence regulation (including the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive), the rights of indigenous peoples and women in the context of corporate activity, and the localisation of global business and human rights norms in regional contexts, including East Asia and Central Asia. She is currently a UKRI Network Plus Research Fellow on the project „Shifting Global Polarities: Russia, China, and Eurasia in Transition“ (2026).
Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Davaanyam gained extensive practical experience in human rights law and policy, including positions at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, UNDP Mongolia, the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre in London, and Sandoz Global Pharmaceuticals. She has also practised as an attorney in Mongolia.
