Description

Have you ever wondered whether International Law is as neutral as mainstsream narratives suggest? What TWAIL stands for? How questions of gender, class and identity interact with International Law? What a Feminist, Queer or Marxist lens makes visible?

Then this is the place for you! This Colloquium will critically analyze the historical foundations, contemporary narratives, and practical applications of international law. Through an engaging combination of essential readings, lively debates, interactive activities, and guest lectures, the Colloquium will offer counter-hegemonic perspectives that contest dominant legal discourses and power structures while highlighting their impact on marginalized groups.

During this weekly seminar, participants will explore, inter alia: Third World Approaches to International Law; Fourth World (Indigenous) critiques; Feminist & Queer theories; Marxist Approaches to International Law; Critical Legal Studies. Discussions will be in English and in an interactive fashion including through the use of case studies, guest lectures, documentary screenings & role plays.

Requirements necessary for participation

Open to FAU students and researchers who are interested in law and human rights. Bachelor’s and Master’s students, PhD researchers, and FAU staff are welcome to join. No prior knowledge is required—only an interest in the topics and willingness to participate actively.
